Why Vintage

Why Vintage? We love fashion and we love shopping! After years of keeping our vintage finds to ourselves we decided to shop for as many people as possible through our website. We still enjoy the thrill of finding amazing vintage clothing without the problem of ever-expanding wardrobes.

Once you start dressing in vintage clothes there is no going back. I discovered this in London's Portabello Road in the 1960s, Thea in the 1980s by dressing up in my clothes (especially the shoes). While my desire to slip into a 1930s bias cut dress, or a 1950s prom dress with masses of net petticoats has never waned, I'm afraid the mirror tells me NO these day! Thea, of course, looks fabulous. However, an amazing 1940s wool crepe suit, a 50s cocktail dress, a 60s mini (over jeans), a 70s maxi (without frills), a sharp cut piece of 80s power dressing: bring it on!

Most of our clothes are sourced locally and we love hearing the stories people have to tell about where an item was bought and for what occasion. Vintage clothing is part of social history. Often people will say: "I felt so special wearing this and I feel so sad knowing how many years it has been stored away, I want someone else to have the pleasure of wearing it". It doesn't matter if it is a designer label - a fabulous Ossie Clark dress, Mary Quant hot pants, Jean Varon evening gown - or a home made 1950s, cotton tea dress, if it has been loved and looked after then we will find it a good new home.

Now we have our shop we can welcome even more people to the vintage clothing world. It has been great to see people developing their style, trying cloths from different decades and finding what suits them. Sometimes we are all amazed and delighted when someone tries on something quite unlike their usual style and looks absolutely wonderful and sometimes we have to admit to feeling quite sad when a favourite piece leaves us.

Vintage accessories, shoes, hats and bags can be an introduction to the exciting world of vintage fashion, and separates offer a way to experiment with mixing vintage with modern or with different eras, a 1940s silk top with an 80s pencil skirt, why not? So if you are new to vintage and fed up with every shop on the high street selling the same anodyne fashion, dip in a toe, it could become a lifetimes obsession and passion, as it has for us!
